As you all know today is the last day to do any last modifications on the projects and hand it in tomorrow. Along with that this will be my last blog for this project!! It has been a long and interesting year, full of debates meeting, stuff ups and of course the good times.
So today we have finalized the report and have proof read the whole report. will be making a back up of all the blogs and will be putting them on a cd soon for the lecturers to mark. As we couldn't make the prototype a equivalent image was created by Photoshop as to show why this project was chosen. hope you guys enjoyed the updates and look forward to the presentation where all shall be revealed.

As we all know the project due date is near and we have now designed the a pillar on solid works. Below are some of the snap shots. The final design will be shown to all you guys in the presentation. As the finals are coming up we are now summing up the report as well. Soon all the information and investigations will be reported to you guys shortly. So stay tuned for more and hopefully you guys enjoy our project.

As you all probably know the end is near and the submissions date gets closer and closer. We have gone a big step ahead with this whole project. One of the recent problems we have conquered is the angle of the a pillar in regards to how it will sit in the vehicle.
With a few tips from Gerry on solidworks the simulation is finally working and we are now finding a way to make a mock up of our project as to make a real model it would simply be too expensive. Looking forward to the presentation and sharing all the facts and figures we have put togeather in this project.

Dear Readers,
So finally after alot of appoinments and muck ups we have done the compression test! The outcome was remarkable and will be presenting you guys with our outcomes shortly! This test has given us a big lead into this technology project. By comparing the results from the original already excisting A pillars to the ones designed by us we can tell if it is useful or not. This will consist of the load it can take and at what point they start to buckle. We will be doing this with the help of physical outcomes of the excisting a pillars and results from the a pillars designed on Solid works. As this project is coming to a close end the results are vast! Stay tuned for more updates!

Fellow readers,
Sorry about the updates! have been off the project for a while now and today finally managed to cut off the excess bits on the A pillar and welded some mounts on both sides so the compression test could be done. A very helpful advice was given to us by Gerry hamilton, our tech advisor to take use of the software solid works. A concept will be designed in the near time and will be compared to the real A pillar with the one designed on solid works. Hope to update you guys as progress is applied. Added are some pictures of today.

Hey Readers,
Sorry about the lack of blogs as I have been extremely busy with this whole project! But i know this is no excuse. Today was a big leap forward in this huge project we have taken up. In the past couple of weeks we have got some drafts ready of how this new A pillar design is going on sit in a vehicle and what changes its going to bring. As you already know our technical advisor was Anura he has now recommended us to consult Gerry as he has more experience in this field and is easier to locate him in the machine shop.
After fighting the weather for the couple past of days today we finally saw sunshine and decided to make a trip to Pick A Part at takanini. We got a little late but managed to reach at around 1pm. As we got all our tools ready and did the prep work to enter Pick A Part we realised the windscreen is sitting on the part we need to cut which will result us into breaking the windscreen and paying for it for no apparent reason! So we decided to look for cars with the windscreen already removed.
This led us to a older model Holden Commodore. It held clean A pillars with no windscreen, Exactly what we were looking for! and to make it better there were 4 different models so now it was upto us how many we wanted! After alot of pulling and snatching and most importantly cutting we got one A pillar off! Phew that was some hardcore labour. Could not have done this without the help of my hardcore working partners. At this point I realised how important this small beam of metal is, as soon as i made the last cut the whole front protion of the car wanted to collapse and the car seemed to be jiggling all over the place. Some more muscle and time got us 2 A Pillars off the same Vehicle. After taking a little seat in the vehicle we could see how much different and how much more view we had of the road and no blindspots at all facing forward.
Today was our first day with some labour and we were happy with the outcome. We are now able to put this into the stress and strain machine to get out values which will allow us to get to the next step of the project which is hardcore calculations!
Once again sorry about the delay will try my best to keep you guys updated.
Regards,
Jasmit Singh

Today we finalized our idea. We had a couple of plans in our minds about adaptive cruise control and using truss systems in the A pillar of a vehicle. We spoke to lixin and anura and got the feedback saying there will be alot of calculations. We as a group decided to go ahead with the A pillar design and put up with the calculation.

After a whole week of researching we got into class with a handful of ideas. We got togeather and were given more indepth information about the project and what was expected for e.g Physical model or a virtual simulation. We were given more information on the I-Drive technology and then were let to go work in our groups. We discussed our ideas and have now come to one topic which we all agreed on which was engine management. During this week we have got alot more information on the project and have some idea of what to be done.
16 March 2010
Today was the second class of project management. We were taught about the new I-drive equipped in the new mazda's. It gave us a fair idea of what we could work on and what these new technologies hold. We now have been discussing about the topic and what were going to cover so we went to the library and got some books out which will help us come to an topic. I chose fuel emission and the best way to bring them to nil.

Today was the first class for project management. We were given the overview of what they expected us to do this year. We were introduced to the lecturers and were told what topics would fall under certain lecturers specialities. We were then given the handouts of the assignment guidelines. We were then overloading with ideas of what to look into and what to improve/design. We made our groups compromising of Mikhail Dennis and myself. Being the first class we did not do much study and did not go into much detail.
